PE and Sport Premium Funding
PE and Sports Premium Funding
In 2017/18, we received £8,460 in PE and Sports Premium Funding. In previous years (see below) we have built up our PE provision using external providers. Whilst doing this in 2016/17, we have also moved towards giving children those experiences that they would not ordinarily be able to access, along with further staff CPD.
Since September 2017, we have entered into two different partnerships within school. We have continued our relationship with West Lancashire School Sports Partnership, but have moved the emphasis of their sessions onto Outdoor Education. With healthy living being a priority nationally, we have focussed the sessions with year 5 and 6 on general outdoor education and fitness. We have also began a partnership with SHARES Lancashire. They work with our year 3 and 4 children, developing their play leader skills, team building and resilience through a variety of sports.
In light of the lack of clubs within the locality, we have twinned with SHARES Lancashire and Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club to promote the game across Skelmersdale.
Further to this, we have developed our CPD programme for staff to encompass events such as Gymnastics and Dance . This has given them the skills and confidence to deliver more diverse activities within their PE lessons.
We have also looked at enhancing our out of learning opportunities for the children. We have re-designed our after school sessions to take into account the children's interest - now they have the chance to take part in dance clubs, gymnastics and outdoor education, as well as football and netball.
In 2016/17 we received £7,553. As a result a sports specialist from West Lancs School Sports Partnership worked in school 1.5 days a week. On a Monday they delivered a PE lesson to each class, ran a lunch-time Playground Leaders club and an after school club for KS2. On a Friday they delivered a lesson to Reception children and Y3/4 as well as an after school club for KS1. Throughout the year, teachers worked with sports coaches to develop their own knowledge of Physical Education.
This allowed us to continue to develop our participation in local and district competitions, as well as participating in the Sainsbury's School Games. This level of involvement meant that we gained the Silver Mark for our participation and commitment to PE and School Sport.
To further enhance our competition entries, we took part in new events such as Handball and Rugby Union and League for the first time, along with Dance, Gymnastics and Multi-Sports. We worked closely with SHARES Lancashire and West Lancs School Sports Partnership to enhance our PE provision throughout the year.
The rest of the money was used to purchase high quality resources, provided training for staff delivering PE lessons and clubs and bought in specialist providers of alternative sports. We looked to give children opportunities to visit world class sporting facilities to help inspire our them to succeed.
By developing our out of hours provision, we found that initiatives such as Playground Leaders and KS1 and KS2 Skill Clubs had a beneficial impact on the attainment and progress over the last year.
As a school we received £8360 for 2014/15 and £7785 in 2015/16. We have used a large proportion of this to work with the School Sports Partnership to improve the provision of PE in school.
With the impending extra Sports Premium money, we intend to develop our strategic partnerships with other organisations and invest in the facilities not only in school, but across Skelmersdale.
